We first stayed at the resort hotel, La Tartaruga, on the beach at San Gregorio, which is just to the east of Capo D'Orlando. La Tartaruga ("Turtle") is the premier establishment in the area for holding weddings, bridal and baby showers, first communions, and other celebrations. It also has its own in-house disco.
Although the room was nice and the view stunning, the noise and activity got to Tom and, after the first nine days, we moved to a quieter location at the other end of Capo D'Orlando. The hotel La Meridiana was in the middle of a lemon grove and miles from any significant activity. Being out of season, their restaurant was only open for Italian breakfasts (i.e. coffee, juice, bread, and a "cornetto" pastry). Although they did host some celebrations while we were there, the rooms were isolated from the noise.
Most of the time was spent in Tom's genealogy research and in visiting the distant cousins we found there. We did have some time for sight-seeing, but for the most part we just took it easy and enjoyed the warm Sicilian sun.
